Let’s Spark Joy

March has been the craziest whirlwind month, I can hardly wrap my mind around it. I have started writing four different blog posts, and none of them felt right for this month. In the midst of birthday parties, busyness at work, and spring break, my writing and querying journey has taken a few twists and turns as well. There’s been a lot of waiting, a lot of writing, a lot more waiting, a lot of panicking, and that’s how this blog post finds me.

Sitting in an unknown space, with a thousand questions always on my mind. And so, thanks to this chaos, I am trying to find and focus on things that spark joy.

Just little things each day that fill my cup, or feel like a reminder that I will be okay. That the busyness and unknowns are not who I am, and they do not have to be all I think about.

I am starting my day with fun coffee syrups. Trying new recipes and enjoying the experience of changing up a cup of coffee without leaving my house. If you make them on Sundays, they’ll be good all week!

Here’s a recipe I’ve been loving from ThriftWitch:

Honey Bun Latte:

● 1 tbsp honey

● 1⁄2 tbsp brown sugar

● 1 tbsp white chocolate sauce

● Pinch of salt

● Sprinkle of cinnamon

I recently heard this phrase “parallel play” in regards to adult friendships and found it so endearing. It looks like turning on the latest episode of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives with your friends and each working on your own hobby. A couple of us knitted, one worked on a bead project, another embroidered. It’s one of those small delights that just feel like home, where you can be with the people you love without worrying about “hosting”.

Lastly, it is a small joy to engage your senses. Take a bath. Light a new candle. Use a shower steamer. Eat a little treat (you deserve it). Plant flowers and get your hands dirty. Make a latte. Go thrifting. Listen to Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally while you do all of the above.

The goal is not accomplishment. The goal is not to complete a task. The goal isn’t even to create something! We do plenty of that every day, and sometimes you just need to sit in a little bit of joy.

Current Hyperfixations:

● Michael B. Jordan going to In N Out after his Oscars win

● You, With a View by Jessica Joyce (QUEEN of rom-com humor)

● Nugget ice

● “Ready, Steady, Go”

● The iconic SNL host run that we are experiencing

● Going to the theater with my kids

● Feeling connected to my WIP characters

● Spring flower arranging

● Cute candle warmers
